What is coaching?
Coaching is a process designed to take you to your next level of effectiveness, as defined by you. Coaches work in partnership with you. Supporting you to identify the best solutions for you. Coaching offers the opportunity for confidential conversations about issues you may find hard to discuss with others at work, a safe space in which to talk and be listened to.
Family and friends are emotionally invested, not only in their own dreams and desires, but also in the dreams and desires they have for you. Coaches, however, are objective. They provide a non-judgemental space to explore and overcome the challenges you are facing.
How is coaching different from mentoring?
A mentor is usually someone with experience in your field of work – someone who can give you specific guidance and advice based on their own career history. A coach may not have experience of your world of work but has expertise in asking really searching questions to help you think through the best solutions for you.

Is it counselling?
Coaching is primarily present and future focused. It focuses on where you are now, how you would like to change, and the actions you are going to take to achieve that change. Coaching helps mentally well people function at a higher level. Counselling tends to focus on the past and present. It can help you to heal wounds from the past and to treat and manage a mental health condition.
What do I need to bring to the coaching sessions to ensure that I get the most out of them?
- Real issues to work on
- A desire for personal change and development
- A commitment to attend sessions
What’s your approach to coaching?
I take a holistic approach to coaching, taking account of your whole life and how your goals fit into and are influenced by this.
How much time does coaching take?
The coaching sessions are an hour and a half long and usually happen once a month. The number of sessions you have and the frequency will vary depending on your goals and the work you want to do between sessions. We can meet face to face in Brighton or via skype. Most clients usually buy blocks of four or six sessions.
What’s in it for me?
You will get focused attention from me in a confidential setting, so that you can step back from work, take stock and make decisions about what you want to achieve and how you will do it.
How do I pay?
I invoice for the sessions in advance and use Paypal which makes online payments straightforward and fast.
What if I can’t make one of our scheduled sessions?
After each session we will agree a mutually convenient time for our next session. However, if something comes up and you can’t make it, just give me 24 hours notice and we can rearrange the session.
When are sessions available?
Sessions are available 10am – 2pm on Thursdays and Fridays. Early and later sessions may sometimes be possible.
